Prioritizing innovation and job creation
What should the world’s leading nations to encourage entrepreneurs, create jobs and strengthen their economies? Prior to the Summit of Young Entrepreneurs Group of 20 (G20), Ernst & Young presented the report Entrepreneurs entrepreneurs speak out, speak openly, which revealed the opinion of thousand entrepreneurs (from G20 member countries) about what World leaders should do to encourage them, create jobs and strengthen their economies.
In this context, Maria Pinelli, VP Global Strategic Growth Markets at Ernst & Young, said “the key to global economic recovery is to support entrepreneurs. They create jobs, build economies and support communities. “
Thus, the following are the essential points on which entrepreneurs view:
- For 62% of them, focus on innovation should be the priority.
- Eighty percent of entrepreneurs said that Governments should facilitate access to financing to young entrepreneurs.
- Entrepreneurs are no longer asking for help banks but looking for “angel investors” venture capital and private capital for financing.
- Of those surveyed, 70% believe that students should have specific training to become entrepreneurs.
Measuring entrepreneurship
According to the report, the G20 governments need more robust tools for measuring entrepreneurship and increase the impact of incentives designed to help boost innovation and address the decline in recruitment, the decrease in job creation and general increase in unemployment.
In this regard, the report highlights five pillars to build a successful entrepreneurial environment:
- Entrepreneurial Culture: The best way in which governments can encourage stronger entrepreneurial culture in society and the business environment is to recognize the strong contribution of entrepreneurs to create jobs and innovation. The role of successful entrepreneurs is also crucial to inspire future generations.
- Education and training: there should be more specific education programs devoted to entrepreneurship to encourage young people to identify market opportunities and career options valid. Entrepreneurship education should start from primary school and go to college and business school, but also professionals leave their corporate functions to create their own business should receive this education.
